About the event

Screen Acting CPD for Teachers

One day. Real tools. Big on-camera confidence.

When: 10:00–16:00 · Where: Cromer Studios, King’s Cross · Fee: £75

Lights. Camera. Classroom. Spend a day in our King’s Cross studios and leave with a toolkit you can use the very next lesson. We’ll bridge the gap between stage and screen, translating solid drama practice into techniques that work where the lens is close and every reaction matters. You’ll try the exercises, feel how they land, and learn exactly how to teach them, no film set required.

The MN Way (your north star)

Our approach is built on three Creative Principles that make screen work teachable and repeatable:

  • Audience Absence: Perform like no one’s watching (except the camera!).

  • Active Listening: Listen like it’s the first time, every time.

  • Control: craft choices the camera can read.

Whether you’re introducing screen acting as a new strand or gearing up to deliver MN’s graded exams, these principles anchor everything you’ll take away.

The Day at a Glance

1) Stage vs Screen: What changes - and why it matters. Spot the key differences from a performance perspective and learn how to explain them to students in plain English (and with far fewer hand gestures).

2) Practical: Riffing - our signature exercise to help learners connect authentically with scripted dialogue - goodbye wooden line reads, hello honest reactions.

3) Creatively Adapting ScriptsHow to reshape scenes for the classroom so students make purposeful choices and avoid pushing the performance.

4) Camera Confidence & “Marking” the SpaceSimple habits that make learners camera-aware, consistent, and ready for multiple takes without continuity chaos.

5) Practical: Poker Face (Close-Up Essentials)Build the micro-skills the lens loves - focus, stillness with intention, and truthful beats that read in close-up.

6) Your Teaching Setup, OptimisedRoom layout, kit-light approaches, and workflows that make screen sessions run smoothly (even on a Tuesday after lunch).

7) Core Creative Principles, in PracticeWe connect the dots so you can plan, teach, and assess screen acting with clarity across ages and abilities.

8) Performing in Digital EnvironmentsImaginative techniques for virtual/CG contexts—industry-standard thinking without industry-level equipment.
