From stage to screen: Reflect the World Your Students Live In
Today’s students live & create on YouTube, Netflix, & TikTok ... why not meet them there? Screen-related subjects don't replace theatre; it’s about expanding what “drama” can mean in today’s classrooms & weekend schools. It’s modern, relevant, & easy to deliver, without needing a film studio budget.
Providing both stage & screen routes increases student retention In Drama.
Dual Learning Outcome
For Aspiring Professionals: Understanding the Industry They’re Entering
For those who dream of performing professionally, over 90% of modern acting opportunities now lie on screen, alongside countless roles within the filmmaking process, from film and TV to commercials, gaming, and self-tapes. Screen is a completely different craft to theatre, and the performers and filmmakers who understand it early gain a clear advantage.
For students serious about performance or production, mastering the technical requirements is non-negotiable. Whether you adopt FilmworkQ or an alternative, neglecting this training means fundamentally missing half of the modern industry.
For all Young Learners: Confidence, Creativity & Online Awareness skills
Screen Acting and Filmmaking aren’t just for aspiring performers, they’re life skills. They build clear communication, natural expression, and confidence, just like theatre, but in a modern, exciting format.
How screen differs?
It lifts the curtain on how film persuades and uses emotion. Research shows that developing media literacy skills helps young people recognise persuasive tactics in the content they encounter online and navigate social media with greater awareness and confidence.

Exam Content & Assessment
While MN grades primarily assess each learner’s individual craft, every level intentionally includes structured paired or collaborative elements to reflect real industry workflows.
In performance-based subjects, learners may work with an off-camera/on-set partner who delivers opposing lines, cues, or prompts - simulating self-tapes, studio links, interviews, and live interactions. This setup encourages responsive, natural performance. Even in solo pieces, learners may sit opposite a partner; the partner can react (but not speak unless a brief cue is specified) and is not assessed.
Our production-based qualifications (like filmmaking) are assessed individually, but creating Film & TV projects is inherently collaborative. As part of our assessment process, learners are evaluated on their ability to lead within a team, make executive decisions, and work effectively with others, mirroring the collaborative environment found in professional production pipelines.
This dual focus - individual mastery plus authentic collaboration - develops comprehensive, industry-ready skills and prepares learners for both independent and ensemble work across Film & TV. (Because let’s be honest: nobody makes a great film entirely on their own.)

Use Of Language
All MN Awards examinations are conducted in English only, this applies to spoken performance, written submissions, filmws coursework and all examiner communications, even when the school is overseas (no dubbing, no subtitles).
For scheduling, all bookings, deadlines, and session start times run on UK time (London, GMT/BST as applicable). International schools should plan accordingly to avoid early-morning heroics or late-night epics!
Can International Schools Run Exams?
Yes. All MN assessments run remotely - live via video call for Screen Acting, and via digital upload for Filmmaking - so international schools can deliver them easily.
Note, exams are booked and run based on UK time; international schools may be asked to complete a Centre application for time-zone accommodation & quality assurance. Please get in touch if you need any help.
Results & Certification
We’re committed to a smooth and reliable turnaround. Each assessment is carefully reviewed and quality-assured before results are released, with digital certificates issued within two weeks of submission. Every certificate carries the same official recognition as a printed version, just faster, greener, and easier to share.
As part of our sustainability pledge, we plant a tree for every certificate awarded, meaning every achievement contributes to a growing global impact. Our two-week turnaround ensures learners are recognised promptly while helping keep the creative industries and the planet thriving.
Marking & Attainment Bands
Each MN Awards qualification is built around a clear framework of learning outcomes and assessment criteria that define the skills, knowledge, and understanding expected at each level. Each criterion carries an allocated maximum score, and examiners apply evidence-based judgements to determine whether a learner’s exam submission meets the required standard, using the published mark descriptors to maintain accuracy and fairness.
Upon completion, the average mark across all criteria is calculated and combined to determine the learner’s overall percentage and grade outcome. This structured approach ensures that all learners are evaluated equitably and consistently - whether the assessment takes place under exam conditions or through coursework submission - upholding the validity, reliability, and integrity of every MN Awards qualification.

UCAS & UCAS POINTS
Ofqual Regulated Graded Examinations and UCAS Points
All of our graded exams are regulated by Ofqual, ensuring that our Level 3 qualifications carry UCAS points. This accreditation aids learners in progressing into higher education by providing recognised credentials that universities value.
Understanding UCAS and UCAS Points
UCAS, the Universities and Colleges Admissions Service, is the UK's central organisation responsible for managing applications to undergraduate courses at universities and colleges. UCAS points are a numerical system used to measure the relative value of post-16 qualifications, such as A-levels and BTECs. Points are allocated based on the grades achieved, enabling universities to assess and compare applicants effectively for their undergraduate programmes.
MN Qualifications That Carry UCAS Points
UCAS Tariff points are awarded only for Level 3 regulated examinations. Non-regulated examinations are ineligible for UCAS points. All subjects state their regulated status. By completing these qualifications, learners earn points that enhance their university applications, providing a competitive edge in the admissions process. This integration of UCAS points into our qualifications underscores our commitment to supporting learners' academic and professional aspirations within the film and television industries.

You'll be pleased to hear MN Awards has ...
NO MINIMUM LEARNER REQUIREMENTS
MN Awards does not impose a minimum number of learners when booking exams. Members and Centres can book a single exam or run multiple exams at the same time - whatever fits your timetable (and sanity).
Why is there no minimum?
All MN assessments happen remotely. That means our examiners don’t need to visit your site - even for performance-based subjects like Screen Acting or TV Presenting. In fact, on-site visits wouldn’t change how we assess: screen work must be evaluated on a screen. Camera framing, eyelines, sound, and the overall recorded performance are the point of the medium. So whether it’s one learner or thirty, remote assessment keeps things authentic, consistent, and flexible.
The benefits
-
Total flexibility: Book one learner, a small group, or parallel sessions across classes.
-
Authentic to the medium: Assessment happens where the work lives - on screen.
-
Consistent & fair: Standardised rubrics and remote moderation support reliable outcomes.
-
Zero venue logistics: No visitor scheduling, room bookings, or “examiner in the corridor” energy.
No minimum numbers because screen subjects should be judged on screen. Remote delivery makes that possible, beautifully, whether you’re examining one learner or a full cohort.
